Milestone Birthday Gift Ideas By Mike Hamilton, Fri Dec 9th
Milestone birthdays come in many flavors. I won’t list them allbut the 16th and the 30th are two of the best known. Whensomeone hits upon a milestone it is customary to make a big dealof it. You have no doubt heard of folks receiving black rosesfor their 30th or some other that is supposed to markbeing old. The Bicentennial of the United States is probably thebest known and probably the most celebrated everobserved at least in the U.S. and it gives us some guidance inhonoring our own friends and loved ones when they hit their ownmilestone birthdays. Citizens made it a big deal and it was a celebrated for morethen a year before the came with a rush of adrenaline. The biggest reason, I believe was the anticipation.
Anyone can order a dozen black roses or take an ad out thatsays, “Lordy, Lordy, look who’s forty.” I like a joke as well asanyone and my friends have called me a first class practicaljoker, however if that is what you want to try then do it withsome panache. How do we tie both of these ideas together? Simply put, it isplanning. You must decide early what the gift will be and startplanning for the unveiling. You will not hit on the perfect ideathe day before a birthday. That is not to say you will not findan acceptable way to celebrate the milestone the daybefore but it will not have that lasting

I doubt that having a large feed is a problem, but I think that having two separate feeds would be best. That way people can just choose which one they prefer.
Thanks for looking at this. By: Unofficial DreamHost Blog Ian - Just realised that I misread your comment. Somehow I thought that you wanted a feed for each forum (category/board). Sorry!
Ian, Josh - I've now experimented with a feed that includes all the posts' content. It works pretty well, and it's really nice to be able to read the entire post in a feedreader. The only problem is that the rss-file is around 150 kb. Is this too much?
Would it be better to limit the feed to only last 24 hours (currently it contains last 48 hours), or to only include excerpts. Another option would be to keep the existing rss feed with headlines only and then have another full post feed as an alternative.
I would really like to hear your opinion on this... Thanks. By: Unofficial DreamHost Blog Josh - I agree that it would be more useful, but it would also require that I requested and parsed every single post in the feed every time I regenerate the RSS file (every 5 minutes) or saved a copy of every post in a database.
I might give it a try, but I won't promise anything... By: Josh Santangelo Seems to work fine, but it would be far more useful if the actual post content were included. By: Unofficial DreamHost Blog Ian - I guess that would be possible. Let's wait a couple of days to see if there's any problems with the main feed.

taste that you cansavor for years to come. As a matter of fact if you can figure out the gift a year ormore in advance you can foreshadow it the year before, then youcan reveal a little more of the plan each month or whateverinterval you wish. Now, I have to point out that this is not theway to celebrate a passing acquaintance’s milestone, unless youwant to be labeled a stalker. This type celebration is for a close friend, your spouse orpartner. If you do it and do it well they will love you morethan you thought possible. Let me give you some additional insight into what I am talkingabout so that you know we are both on the same page. Let’s saythat the milestone gift is a dream golf trip. The yearbefore the big event you give them a set of clubs. Periodicallyyou give them a reminder that you haven’t forgotten that golf isimportant to them. A month or two later you give them a golfmagazine subscription. Later still you give them monogrammedtees. Even further down the road you give some fancy ballmarkers. I think you get the point. You weave a story for a period oftime but you must do it in such a way that they do not fullyunderstand until the day has come. They will love you for thethought and the planning. You will enjoy it as much as they doand your relationship will be richer for it.
